RFID Weblog: Keep an eye on your exotic pets with RFID

Have you ever encountered a python or reptile in your closet or saucepan? These wild creatures might have sent shiver down your spine but you may not have realized that these may be some of the exotic pets which might have escaped from their owners' houses. A number of people are fond of keeping exotic pets but at times these pets might pose trouble for others.

Now in an effort to keep a track on these 'exotic pets' before they cause any trouble for others, the state of Florida wants that these pets be implanted with low frequency RFID tags in order to keep an eye on them. This will also save the wildlife enforcement officers from the trouble of tracking down the owners of these pets too. A new rule has been adopted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission under which various reptiles will be injected with RFID tags once they achieve a diameter of two inches.
